Dr. Thomas Beard, Ph.D CEng MIMechE is a Clean Shipping Service Lead at BMT.
Dr. Thomas Beard is a chartered engineer and the Clean Shipping Lead at BMT. He has a PhD in Hydrogen Safety from Loughborough University, following this he has spent several years in industry working on a variety of aspects of ship and submarine design and build. He is the co-chair of the National Maritime Hydrogen & Future Fuels working group, a member of the Maritime UK Hydrogen group, on the steering group for MariNH3 (ammonia in maritime) and on the Industry Advisory Board for Ocean-REFuel (offshore power to X). He has published and presented numerous papers on the topic of alternative fuels for maritime and naval platforms.

Global Business Development Director for Defence, Maritime and Security
Monty Long is BMT's Business Development Director for UK Europe. He previously had a 32-year career in the Royal Navy as a Weapon Engineer. He was fortunate to have sea jobs in frigates, a destroyer and a carrier, unusually each platform being ever older as he completed his sea going days in HMS ILLUSTRIOUS. His shore roles were themed around acquisition and capability management, with leadership roles in DE&S, ISS and NCHQ, as well as multiple tours in MoD London.
He is a Fellow of the IET and CMI; an alumnus of RCDS and the Windsor Leadership Programme; holds Level 7/Masters qualifications in Modelling and Simulation, Strategic Studies, Leadership and Management, and Strategy.

Tim Neild is BMT’s Senior Business Development Manager in the Defence and Security Future Business Team. His role is to lead the development and implementation of BMT’s growth plans in the Defence Sector in UK & Europe.
Tim joined BMT following a 33-year career in the Royal Navy, specialising in Operations and Capability & Acquisition. He commanded five Warships on Operations world-wide and, following an MBA programme at Cranfield University, held Programme leadership positions in the Maritime Capability directorate of Navy Command Headquarters, providing the direction and oversight to the delivery of the Navy’s capability portfolio aligned to future strategic objectives. His most recent naval assignment before leaving the Service was as a Commodore in Command of the Royal Navy’s Surface Fleet and its people.
Tim also has a bachelor’s degree in Maritime Defence Technology & Business Management and brings a wealth of operational context and an innate understanding of maritime capability to the role. He was awarded a CBE in the 2020 New Year’s Honours list for his service as the Captain of HMS ALBION, the Fleet Flagship, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
